Our vamX review

If Virt-A-Mate is a workshop, vamX is the finished showroom. You choose a partner, a location and a position from menus, optionally layer in toys, restraints or a third participant, and the scene plays out using VaM's physics underneath. A randomize button spits out a new look on demand, which is a fast way to explore a cast that stretches to hundreds of characters, from ordinary partners to angels, devils, robots and furries.

The standout feature is possession. Step into the male or female character and their body tracks yours, which makes the experience feel far more personal than steering from a menu. Same-sex and bisexual scenes are supported, though the pack is built mostly around straight sex. It also runs on a desktop monitor, handy for setting things up before putting the headset on.

The downsides come from its foundation. You need VaM installed first, a Windows machine with a strong graphics card and some patience reading the bundled readme. Players have been less enthusiastic than with VaM itself, about one like per nine plays, perhaps because the install chain puts some off. Even so, nothing else here offers this much variety with this little effort once it is running.
